Arrest in Break, Enter and Sexual Assault West Side Area

The Saint John Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in relation to a break, enter and sexual assault in West Saint John.  

On Friday, August 5, 2022, at approximately 12:19 a.m., the Saint John Police responded to a break, enter and sexual assault in progress in West Saint John.  

It is alleged that: 

-A woman woke to a man in her home who sexually assaulted her. 

-She was able to interrupt the assault and call police.

-The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. 

-She recognized the suspect from a previous contact. 

Within minutes, the police located the suspect and vehicle a short distance away. 

A 37-year-old man was arrested and held in custody.  

The victim did not sustain any life-threatening physical injuries. She was examined at hospital and later released.  

On Friday, August 5, 2022, the accused appeared in provincial court charged with break and enter and sexual assault. He was remanded to jail and he is scheduled to return to court on Monday, August 8, 2022 for a bail hearing. 

A publication ban has been ordered by the Court prohibiting the release of any information that may identify the victim in this case. No further details will be released at this time.
