Arrest in Sexual Assault Investigation

The Saint John Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with an on-going sexual assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

On Sunday, May 8, 2022, at approximately 3:29 a.m., a 40-year-old woman was walking in the area of the Courtenay Causeway.

She was pushed into the bushes and sexually assaulted by an unidentified man she had met earlier in the evening.

She was able to escape and flag down motorists who called police.

She sustained non-life-threatening physical injuries.

As a result of an on-going investigation by the Family Protection Unit, on Thursday, June 2, 2022, investigators arrested the accused.

On Friday, June 3, 2022, the accused appeared in provincial court on charges of sexual assault, uttering threats and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to return to court for a bail hearing on June 6, 2022.
