Teenager Pronounced Deceased Following Weekend Incident

On Sunday, October 17, 2021, the Saint John Police Force responded to a water rescue at Pugsley Wharf in Saint John. It was reported that:

-At approximately 11:37 a.m., a 9-1-1 caller reported that a man was in the water.

-Within minutes, emergency responders arrived and a firefighter with the Saint John Fire Department jumped into the water and retrieved the man.

-Emergency responders worked tirelessly administering life saving measures.

-The man was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. He has been identified as an 18-year-old Saint John man.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident but do not anticipate any criminal charges. 

The Saint John Police Force sends condolences to friends and family of this young man during this extremely difficult time.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area that has dash-cam or video surveillance of the incident at the time it occurred.
