Beautification Grant

Beautification Grant Program promotes vibrant neighbourhoods in the City’s North End

The City of Saint John offers financial incentives to undertake development projects with the Beautification Grant Program in the Old North End and Douglas Avenue area. This program promotes vibrant neighbourhoods, encouraging residents and property owners in the City’s North End to paint, plant, prune, and plan for an exterior façade or landscape renovation.

The Beautification Grant Program was launched in 2016 and was previously available to property owners in the City’s South Central Peninsula neighbourhoods. Since then, it has provided financial support to 41 property owners, with more than $100,000 in funding.

The program has not only grown to include the North End neighbourhoods, it has also expanded the types of eligible work, including for the first time, work that will be completed directly by the property owner.

For approved work done directly by a property owner, the program will offer up to 100 per cent reimbursement for the cost of materials. For more significant work that requires professional contractor services, grants will continue to cover 35 per cent of the cost of improving front facades and yards. Maximum contributions are in place.

Eligible work, criteria, applications and details on the grant program can be found by visiting www.saintjohn.ca/beautificationapplication. As outlined in the grant application requirements, work cannot be started until the grant application has been approved. Work that has started or been completed before approval will nullify the application.

Each year, the City of Saint John proudly supports local organizations, businesses and property owners through its Municipal Grants Program. In accordance with PlanSJ, the Municipal Grants Program supports the City in its ongoing pursuit to be a community of choice and promote economic health to residents and visitors. These grants are intended to strengthen our city and our residents by supporting community services, recreation, wellness, culture, art, events, environment, heritage and beautification.
