Approximately 370 illegal dump sites are reported to the city annually—about one illegal dump per day. This must stop. Illegal dumping is a significant problem for Saint John, and it affects of all of us. Not only are illegal dumps an eyesore in our community, but cleaning them up costs taxpayers upwards of $70,000 per year. It’s why illegal dumping is an offence that comes with heavy penalties. Fines range from $500 to $20,500 for individuals, and from $1,000 to $1 million for companies.
