Vous prévoyez d’organiser un événement dans un espace public de la ville de Saint John? L’équipe des événements spéciaux de la Ville est là pour vous aider!

Notre équipe peut vous aider à répondre à vos questions et vous conseiller sur les espaces municipaux disponibles, les règlements municipaux qui s’appliquent, les exigences en matière de permis et les meilleures pratiques en matière d’organisation d’événements.

Tous les événements communautaires organisés sur le territoire municipal nécessitent l’approbation de la Ville pour réserver l’espace et assurer la sécurité et le succès de tous les éléments de l’événement. L’approbation dépend de nombreux facteurs, notamment la nature de la demande, la disponibilité des lieux, la réalisation et la soumission de toutes les exigences nécessaires à l’événement. La présentation d’une demande d’organisation d’événement constitue une demande d’utilisation d’un espace de parc public ou de fermeture de rue pour les besoins d’un événement et ne garantit pas l’approbation de l’événement.

En fonction de la taille et de l’ampleur de votre événement, vous pouvez obtenir l’approbation dès deux semaines après la demande, mais un minimum de 4 semaines et parfois plus de 16 semaines peuvent être nécessaires pour examiner et traiter votre demande.

La Ville de Saint John se réserve le droit de révoquer l’accès et d’annuler un événement jusqu’au jour même de sa tenue ou à tout moment pendant sa tenue.

Application for Special Events

The Special events task force will review each application from the perspective of each of the respective departments and assess the event compliance with the Public Space Events and Street Events Policy of City of Saint John.

The City of Saint John (“City”) reserves the right to revoke access and/or cancel an event up to and including the day of the event or at any time during the event.

On Site Liaison will be the present at the event site from set up to tear down. On-Site Liaison will be the emergency contact for the event

Will there be alcohol sale. Distribution or consumption on site?

*A license must be obtained from the Department of Public Safety’s Licensing services Division prior to this aspect of the event being approved by the City. 
*A fire inspection of your site will be required by NB Liquor
*Requests for events being held on Municipal property that involve the sale, distribution or consumption of alcohol must be submitted no late than 90 working days before your event. A 120 dollar fee for temporary re-zoning applies. The application can be found here: PDF 
* Where liquor will be served or sold at a Street Event, the organizers shall obtain and maintain in full force a Commercial General Liability insurance policy with limits of not less than $500,000, naming the City of Saint John as “Additional Insured”; and additional liquor liability insurance shall be obtained. Evidence of all required insurance coverage(s) should be uploaded on the attachment. 
 

Will there be music -live/recorded?

*If yes, you should contact SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada about licensing. www.socan.com

Will you be using sound amplification system?

* If yes, you may be required to apply for an exemption to By-Law No. M-22 “A By-Law Respecting Disturbance by Noise”.

Will you be using the generator?

* Any generator on site is required to have metal barricades around it for safety purposes.

Will you require power access from the City of Saint John supplied sources?

*If you are drawing considerable power from the City supplied source, you may be required to compensate the City for its use. Special Events Coordinator will follow up to discuss your needs. 
 

Will you need parking space outside your event area?

*If Yes, please list them below and indicate it on the site map.
-Parking for space for loading into the event location

*Depending on location and timing of request, parking fees may apply. If granted parking permits for the above, the permit must be displayed in the vehicle at all times.

City Resources

A limited amount of City services may be made available to event organizers. There may be fees associated with these requests. The cost of staff time and transporation of the items are taken into consideration when approving or not approving these instances, event organizers will be responsible for pick and return of the requested items.

All food vendors will need to display their food permit and licensing for the event
*The organizer is responsible for ensuring a permit is obtained from the fire department for any open fires. This permit application requires 30 working days before the event.

*Note: Where a special event is held on Municipal Lands, a person or group-other than City deaprtments, boards, agencies, and commissions and agents of the City of Saint John have to carry third party liability insurance for the Street Event. Wheather all or part of the event takes place on or passes over City of Saint John public property the Event Organizers may have to abtain and maintain in full force a commercial General Liability insurance policy with limits of not less than $2,000,000, naming the City of Saint John, as an “. Additional Insured”
