The City of Saint John invites residents to an online public engagement session on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This virtual session is part of the Saint John Comprehensive Parking Study focused on the South-Central Peninsula neighbourhood.

Parking issues in the City of Saint John, specifically in the South-Central Peninsula neighbourhood, include challenges such as the perception of limited availability of parking spaces in certain areas, leading to congestion and difficulties for both residents and visitors to find parking.

Other common issues and concerns include unclear or inadequate signage, leading to confusion over parking regulations, as well as issues related to parking enforcement, like ticketing, or concerns related to the cost of parking in some locations. Efforts to address these issues often involve improving parking infrastructure, promoting alternative transportation options, and implementing clearer regulations and enforcement measures to manage parking more effectively.

What to Expect:

  • Update on work completed since the first Public Engagement Session held in January.
  • Summary of feedback received to date.
  • Overview of the draft recommended parking strategy.

Goals of the Study:

  • Develop a Comprehensive Parking Study to guide the parking service in meeting evolving community needs, supporting future development, and promoting smart growth.
  • Review Current Parking Services, including parking inventory, capacity, and demand.
  • Provide Strategic Recommendations for short-term and long-term parking improvements aligned with the City’s existing plans, such as MoveSJ.
  • Evaluate Emerging Trends like active transportation, and greening parking services.
  • Enhance Accessibility and Support Smart Development.
  • Engage the Community and Stakeholders.
  • Benchmark with Similar Municipalities and prioritize recommendations with clear timelines for implementation.

The public is encouraged to join the discussion, share their thoughts and help shape the future of parking in Saint John.
