City invites vendor community to attend information session outlining new social procurement initiative

The City of Saint John is making changes to its procurement policy to incorporate social value into its procurement activities. These changes will contribute to the social and sustainability goals of the City, while continuing to deliver the best overall value to tax payers.

The City is inviting the vendor community to attend one of two information sessions on Thursday, May 11 for a presentation on the new social procurement initiative followed by an opportunity for participants to ask questions and provide feedback. Two information sessions will be offered, taking place in Council Chambers at City Hall from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. An option to participate virtually will also be provided.

Common Council has expressed an interest in adopting Social Procurement practices in an effort to achieve overall best value for the community. The new Strategic Procurement Policy incorporates this mindset. Some of the benefits of social value include:

  • Promotion of supplier diversity
  • Support of Social Enterprises
  • Inclusive employment practices
  • Environmental stewardship
  • Support of businesses owned by members of traditionally disadvantaged groups

Vendors interested in taking part in one of the information sessions are asked to R.S.V.P. by Tuesday, May 9, by email, to Chris Roberts at supplychainmanagement@saintjohn.ca. Anyone interested in participating virtually will receive a link via email once they register.

If you are unable to attend one of the sessions and would like to learn more, please email the contact listed above.
