Fire hydrant flushing begins in the City's South/Central Peninsula

The City of Saint John is proceeding with a program of fire hydrant flushing to clean the water distribution pipes in the City's South/Central Peninsula.

Over the next few weeks flushing will be performed between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
This may affect water customers in areas of the South/Central Peninsula, Haymarket Square, Douglas Avenue, and neighbourhoods north and south of the Saint John throughway.

Customers may experience turbidity (dirty or cloudy) water for up to 20 minutes if they use water during the time that the line on their street is being flushed. Though customers may encounter a drop in water pressure, at no time should they be without water. The water is safe to consume.

The City will notify the public when the fire hydrant flushing program begins in other areas.
