Improving audible crosswalk messaging for all

Beginning the week of March 22, the City of Saint John will be updating crosswalks with audible messaging to further enhance safe access for all pedestrians.

Currently, the City has 35 signalized crosswalks equipped with Accessible Pedestrian Systems (APS), including audible messaging, for pedestrians with low or no vision.  All 35 current and future APS crosswalks will now include audible messaging in both English and French.

The aspirational goal of MoveSJ, the City’s new Transportation Plan, is to allow each citizen the ability to use the transportation mode of their choice and do so safely.  Continuous access and safety improvements to City crosswalks, such as providing audible messaging in both official languages, takes us one step closer to achieving this goal.
