The community is invited to attend a free day of fun activities and entertainment at Shamrock Park on Saturday, June 10 to celebrate Shamrock Day.

This full day of events will include the official opening of Saint John’s first disc golf course and accessible tennis court, the lighting of the new sports score clock, and the return of the popular summer event series, Passport to Parks. Shamrock Day will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is the perfect way to kick off a summer full of recreation for all ages.

To start the day, a special disc golf course ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the seventh hole located next to the tennis courts. Following the ceremony, the public will have a chance to learn how to play disc golf from the Saint John Disc Golf Association, and equipment, practice areas and the new course will be available for use. The first 50 people to attend will receive a free disc.

The new score clock will be officially turned on at 11:00 a.m. at the Emera turf field and a free BBQ, music, entertainment, and activities such as face-painting are being provided as part of the first Passport to Parks event of the summer, with prizes to be given out throughout the day.

An accessible tennis event will take place in the afternoon, beginning at 1:30 p.m. where five sport wheelchairs from Para NB will be available for use. Representatives from Saint John and District Tennis will also be on hand to provide free use of equipment and free coaching.

 

Shamrock Day itinerary

  • 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. - free BBQ, music, activities and entertainment provided all day as part of the first Passport to Parks event of the summer, with prizes being given out throughout the day.
  • 10:30 a.m. - Ribbon cutting ceremony and official opening of disc golf course. Remarks from City Councillor Barry Ogden and Saint John Disc Golf President Jeremy Rasch. The first 50 people to attend will receive a free disc. 
    • Ace challenge runs from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the lower fields
    • Learn how to play disc golf demonstrations will be hosted at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • 11:00 a.m. - Ribbon cutting ceremony to activate the new score clock and score booth get activated.
  • 1:30 p.m. - Accessible tennis event. Five sport wheelchairs from Para NB will be available for use. Representatives from Saint John and District Tennis will also be on hand to provide free use of equipment and free coaching.
