Post-Storm Snow Efforts

City crews work around the clock after snow and ice storm

We understand many of you are feeling frustrated after this weekend’s severe snow and ice storm, and we want to assure you that City crews are actively working to address the aftermath. All available equipment is in operation today to salt and sand roads and sidewalks, as well as clear as much ice and snow as possible from these areas.

The storm has had a significant impact across several cities in the Maritimes and other parts of the country. We are all facing a challenging winter season.

Please be aware that the ice from this storm will take several days, if not weeks, to be removed by our team or fully melt, with particular delays to clearing sidewalks expected. Salt works best when temperatures are around -10°C (14°F) or higher.  The City uses salt/sand mix for traction when it is very cold, like it is now.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. For general updates, please note that our Customer Service Centre is experiencing high call volumes, and it may take longer than usual to address inquiries. We encourage you to follow us on social media for the latest updates.

We kindly ask everyone to prioritize safety by allowing extra time for travel, wearing appropriate footwear with grippers, and driving with caution on slippery roads.

As of now, all roads that were temporarily closed due to flooding have been reopened. Park trails remain icy and slippery, so please exercise caution.

The south-central peninsula parking ban was lifted at 7 a.m. this morning. Stay connected for updates on any additional parking bans in the coming days. Street-by-street parking bans are expected over the coming days with signs placed at least 8 hours in advance.  If you can avoid parking on the streets while crews work to clear the areas, it is appreciated, especially where parking bans are called or generally where parking is not permitted.

Thank you for your patience as we work hard to ensure the safety of our community.
