City deploys portable speed display signs to assist with traffic calming measures

"

The City of Saint John is using another tool to help our streets become safer for active transportation and other roadway users.

Residents will notice portable speed display signs on various streets where the community has expressed concerns about speeding. The signs will notify motorists when they are speeding and encourage them to slow down to the posted speed limit. The signs will also collect speed data to help measure performance of this new tool.

These signs are meant to help immediately address community concerns about speeding and will be further augmented in some areas when the
City’s Traffic Calming Policy can be applied where more permanent measures are needed.

Please contact the City’s Customer Service Centre at (506) 658-4455 if you are concerned about speeding on your street and would like to be part of this program.

MoveSJ is the City's 25-year transportation plan with an aspirational goal of providing each citizen with the opportunity to use the transportation mode of their choice and do so safely. The third and final phase of MoveSJ covers strategies on cycling, roundabouts, road safety, an updated road classification system, and an overall improvement plan.
