City invites community to International Women’s Day flag raising ceremony

The City of Saint John invites the community to join staff and members of Council for a flag raising ceremony in front of City Hall on Wednesday, March 8, at 10:00 a.m. in celebration and recognition of International Women’s Day. Councillor Joanna Killen will raise the International Women’s Day flag and share what this important day means to her and for women in the community.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity. The international movement began in 1911 and continues to celebrate women’s achievements and inspire people to work towards the goal of a gender equal world, free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

In addition to the flag raising ceremony, City employees have put pen to paper, writing notes of encouragement that promote and support and gender equity. The messages will be showcased throughout the month of March at the top of City Market in a special display case. The public is invited to visit the Market and read the inspirational messages.
