City of Saint John Celebrates National Public Works Week

The City of Saint John is proud to celebrate National Public Works Week, May 17-23, 2026, recognizing the people and teams who help make Saint John a safe, reliable, and vibrant place to live every day.

Our public works department support nearly every aspect of daily life in our city. From maintaining roads and sidewalks, to caring for parks and green spaces, providing reliable solid waste services, supporting winter operations, and maintaining the City’s municipal fleet, their work helps keep Saint John moving smoothly in every season.

National Public Works Week is an opportunity to highlight the dedication, expertise, and pride public works employees bring to their work. Their efforts contribute to public safety, environmental stewardship, and community well-being, while also supporting economic activity and everyday life across the city. Whether responding to changing conditions, assisting with community events, or carrying out ongoing maintenance and improvements, public works teams are a constant presence in every neighbourhood.

This year’s theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” reflects the long‑standing role public works plays in supporting the infrastructure and services that help communities grow and thrive. Our public works teams efforts form the foundation of a well‑functioning city and reinforce the connection between public service and the people it supports.

The City of Saint John thanks our public works employees for their commitment and for the vital role they play in our community, and encourages residents extend their appreciation throughout this week, and the busy summer season.
