City of Saint John Investigating Significant Cyber Attack

The City of Saint John is notifying the public that the municipality has experienced a significant cyber attack. As a result, all City information technology systems have been shut down until further notice. This includes access to www.saintjohn.ca, online payment systems, email and customer service applications.

We can confirm that the 911 communication centre remains operational for all emergency response.

Calls to the City’s customer service number 658-4455 will continue to be addressed on a priority basis.

We do not yet know whether personal information stored on our networks has been compromised. As a precaution, we recommend that users of our systems regularly check their bank accounts and credit cards for suspicious activity.

At this time, we are continuing our efforts to contain and eradicate the virus and restore our systems. A timeline can not yet be provided for full recovery. The city is coordinating with federal and provincial agencies and is working with our partners to help manage any risks.

Until restored, the City of Saint John will not be accepting payments for any services provided. For example, water bills and parking tickets. No late fees will be applied.

Most routine City services remain operational. If there are questions, the public can call customer service at 658-4455, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Please follow the City’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for updates.
