City seeks volunteers for City Market Strategic Plan Steering Committee

The City of Saint John is developing a new strategic plan for the City Market that will guide its operations and development and support the Saint John Community over the next 10 years. As a part of this strategic planning process, a City Market Strategic Plan Steering Committee is being created through an open public nomination process. This steering committee will be responsible for: 

• Setting vision, goals, and objectives for the City Market;
• Reviewing and advising on any analytical work required to support the strategic plan;
• Make important decisions regarding the City Market based on stakeholder engagement;
• Recommending the overall strategic plan for endorsement by the Growth Committee and ultimately approval by Common Council.  

The strategic plan will help drive smart and sustainable growth at the Saint John City Market.                                                                                                                 

The City is seeking 4 nominations from the public to serve on the steering committee in a volunteer capacity. This committee will play a major role in the development of the new 10-year strategic plan for the Saint John City Market.  

The Saint John City Market Steering Committee will advise the City of Saint John Growth Committee on the strategic plan and act as ambassadors within the community to actively promote citizen involvement in the strategic planning process. Committee members will meet regularly throughout the process. It is anticipated that members will attend approximately 1-2 meetings per month for 1-3 hours per meeting until Fall, 2022. Meetings will likely be held after business hours, and members must be able to participate in video conference meetings if in person meetings are not possible.

The City encourages nominations for volunteers representing a wide cross-section of the Saint John community. 

The followings characteristics are particularly relevant to the committee, and applicants should indicate which characteristics they possess:

• Resident of Saint John;
• Regular customer of the City Market;
• Working experience or qualified skills in marketing, business, entrepreneurship, facility management, legal, historical knowledge of the City and or Market,  accounting, tourism or hospitality, planning, economic development.
