By-Law Number LG-15 A Law to Amend a By-Law respecting the Procedures of the Common Council of The City of Saint John

Public Notice is hereby given that the Common Council of The City of Saint John intends to consider giving third reading to the bylaw entitled, “By-Law Number LG-15 A Law to Amend a By-Law respecting the Procedures of the Common Council of The City of Saint John” at its meeting of May 1, 2023.

This amendment to the Procedural Bylaw gives effect to approve a Notice of Motion process. The revised process is a two-step process where the Notice of Motion is placed on the agenda of Council and read into the record. The debate and voting on that motion takes place at a subsequent Council meeting. This allows time for Council members to consider the motion during the two-week period before being asked to vote on a motion. The amendment also incorporates a Notice of Motion template that directs councillors in the drafting of a motion and is intended to ensure that members receive the information necessary to make an informed decision.

In accordance with the Local Governance Act, the bylaw will be read in summary only, if no member of Council objects.
