Natural Gas Rupture on Water Street in Uptown Saint John – Avoid the Area

UPDATE: 10:20 am (April 27, 2026)

The Shelter in Place advisory has been lifted Uptown. The gas utility has successfully controlled the natural gas leak. Please continue to follow instructions from emergency and utility personnel working on site.

We thank the community for their attention.

Emergency crews are responding to a natural gas rupture at 4 Water Street.

A 100‑metre isolation zone is being established with road closures in place.

Occupants of buildings north of the rupture are being advised to shelter in place, close windows and shut off all ventilation systems until further notice.

The gas utility is responding.

Please avoid the area and follow instructions from emergency personnel.
