Parking restrictions to help snow clearing efforts

Vehicles parked on streets or sidewalks during and following snowstorms delay or impede our snow clearing efforts. This winter, the growing snowbanks and mixed precipitation events are creating a heightened need for the City's snow clearing equipment to access the full street width, as free as possible from parked vehicles. Motorists are asked to find alternate parking locations wherever possible.

Parking restrictions in various forms are used to ensure street clearing equipment can access streets and sidewalks.

  • General No Parking Signs: Certain streets have permanent No Parking signs.
  • Alternate Side Parking: In place in the South Central Peninsula, parts of the Lower West, Old North End, and other areas.
  • Overnight Parking Bans: Can be called in the South Central Peninsula or for the rest of the city.

Despite the cooperation of many residents, on-street parking continues to impede snow clearing this winter. As a result, the City is making use of a section of our Traffic By-Law this winter that allows a street to be signed temporarily as No Parking for the purpose of street cleaning, including snow clearing.

Temporary no parking signs will be posted at least 8 hours in advance of snow clearing efforts. Any vehicles remaining on the street will face enforcement in the form of fines and potentially towing before the snow clearing operation is completed.

Your cooperation is essential to keep our streets safe during the winter months. Thank you for your understanding and support!
