UPDATE: Effective immediately, trails in Saint John are now fully open

September 8, 2025 (SAINT JOHN, N.B.) – Effective immediately, all City-operated parks and trails will reopen to the public. While access resumes, fire safety restrictions remain in place.

As wildfire risks remain high across the province, the Government of New Brunswick’s burn ban continues to be in effect. Most restrictions on Crown lands have been lifted but the burn ban remains in place.

The City of Saint John is updating residents on local park access and ongoing fire safety measures.

To reduce fire risk, the following activities are strictly prohibited in all City parks:

  • Wood and propane fires
  • BBQs
  • Fireworks
  • Outdoor open fires

Residents are urged to exercise caution and avoid the following activities:

  • Smoking in wooded areas or areas with dry grass
  • Irresponsible use of ATVs on trails and in wooded areas
  • Setting off backyard fireworks
  • Outdoor open fires

These activities pose serious fire risks under current dry conditions.

The Saint John Fire Department may issue fines for violations of the provincial burn ban. Fines range from a minimum of $140 to a maximum of $2,100.

If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately to report it. Rapid reporting helps Saint John Fire crews respond quickly and prevent escalation.

The Saint John Emergency Management Organization (SJEMO) remains in active monitoring mode and is prepared to respond as needed.

We urge all residents to remain vigilant, follow safety guidelines, and help protect our community.
