UPDATE: Shelter in place recommendation lifted across Saint John

The SJ-EMO, on the advice of the Regional Medical Officer of Health, has lifted the shelter-in-place recommendation across Saint John.

The fire is contained, and emergency personnel will remain on scene at the AIM facility throughout the day to deal with any localized smoldering hot spots.

Public Health still recommends that anyone who can see and smell smoke take any necessary precautions, including wearing a mask.

The Department of Health and the Department of Environment and Local Government recommend the following related to outdoor household items and gardens:

Outdoor items:

  • If you have any outdoor equipment or furniture that was exposed to the release (including children’s play equipment and toys), you should clean them with soap and water.
  • No special precautions are required to complete this cleaning, aside from the usual hand washing once you’re finished.

Gardens:

  • If you have an exposed outdoor home garden, any above-ground vegetables that may have been exposed to the release should not be consumed and should be discarded.
  • Any below-ground produce that was not exposed would be considered safe for consumption.

Updates will be provided as available, through the City of Saint John’s website at www.saintjohn.ca and Facebook and Twitter accounts.
