The Saint John Transit Commission was established in 1979 to provide scheduled transit service to the city. It is the largest public transit system in New Brunswick in terms of both mileage and passengers. Ridership is about 2.1 million passengers per year—that’s about 50% higher than the average for Canadian cities with a population of between 50,000 and 150,000.

Governed by a Commission, Saint John Transit is dedicated to high standards of customer service through innovative programs and commitment to the community. With one bus replacing 40 cars, public transit creates 65 percent fewer Green House Gas emissions than the same travel by automobile. Committed to conservation, Saint John Transit’s goal is to replace older buses with new buses that are low emission and energy efficient.
