East Saint John Community Service Development

In 2025, the City of Saint John completed an evaluation of community services. Based on the findings, Common Council approved recommendations aimed at improving programs and service offerings in East Saint John.

Working together with the community, City staff will develop a plan that:

  • represents a community-led approach to programs and services;
  • addresses barriers such as affordability and accessibility to services;
  • improves awareness and engagement;
  • supports service providers to build collaboration, capacity and sustainability

How can you be involved?

To implement a service delivery plan for East Saint John, community leaders are needed to serve in various capacities. As a community leader, you will volunteer your time and talents serving as a voice for east side residents. Through your personal, professional or volunteer roles, you bring knowledge, history, lived experience, and insight into the lives of east Saint John youth, adults, families and/or seniors as well as target populations such low-income residents, newcomers, and persons with disabilities. You may also have knowledge and experience in one or more community services.

The descriptions below are intended as a preliminary guide and are subject to change based on community input.

Join the Community Network

The East Side Community Network will bring together a large variety of east side stakeholders. Schools, service providers, neighbourhood associations, faith-based institutions, facility operators, service clubs, community volunteers and businesses can all be network members.

Members belong to the network to communicate, connect, share information and resources, and work collaboratively to identify opportunities to meet East Saint John community needs.

Term: Ongoing
Meetings: Members connect as needed. May meet 1-4 times per year as a larger group. Likely more frequent meetings at the beginning of formation.

Serve on a Committee

An East Saint John Advisory Committee will be formed as a temporary planning group to serve as the voice of East Side residents. Together with City staff, the Advisory Committee will determine priorities and develop a plan of action for improved quality-of-life services in East Saint John.

Term: Temporary; 1-2 years
Meetings: minimum of 1 monthly meeting
