Agreement reached between Saint John Transit Commission and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1182

During tonight’s open session of Common Council, City Manager John Collin informed Council that a new three-year Collective Agreement has been reached between the Saint John Transit Commission and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1182. Ratification by the Union took place on January 10, 2021.

The Agreement will see all union members receive a retroactive pay increase of 1.036% from January 2, 2020. Year two includes a zero per cent wage increase and year three will follow the wage escalation policy approved by resolution of Common Council on September 23, 2019. Aside from wages, additional language within the Agreement remains consistent with the previous contract.

“The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1182 is pleased to have reached a negotiated agreement with the Saint John Transit Commission,” said Grant Logan, President of the Transit Union. “We feel the agreement reached is fair for our members.”

“The Saint John Transit Commission is pleased with the agreement that has been negotiated. The measures set forth will continue to contribute to strengthening the delivery of public transit as a professional, efficient, and affordable service," said Saint John Transit Commission Chair Trish Ellsworth. “I want to thank those involved in seeing the negotiation process through.”

Negotiations between the Saint John Transit Commission and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1182 began in February 2020. The Union represents 70 members.
