Building a Stronger Saint John: Affordable Housing Grant Applications Open Through January 16, 2026

Applications for the City of Saint John's Affordable Housing Grant are now open from November 17, 2025, until January 16, 2026.

To date, the Affordable Housing Grant Program, has helped fund 132 new affordable or supported units completed or under construction across the city.  

The program provides $10,000 per affordable unit for eligible non-profit housing providers up to a maximum of $200,000 and $8,000 per affordable unit for eligible private sector developers up to a maximum of $160,000. Each project can receive up to an additional $50,000 in bonus funds for projects that are innovative or address a market gap up to the respective maximum amount. 

Projects must propose a minimum of 5 affordable units. Applicants must also provide proof of provincial/federal government support for their project.  

Successful applicants will have up to 1 year to obtain a building permit. All grants will be paid out upon completion of the project’s foundation, subject to terms and conditions of the grant agreement.  

Successful applicants must complete their project prior to April 2027.    

Applications for the Affordable Housing Grant Program are available through the City’s website from November 17 to January 16, 2026. The Grant Committee will begin reviewing applications December. Funding will be committed through quarterly grant cycles until all the budget for 2025 is expended.
