Canadian Armed Forces testing their navigation skills in Rockwood Park this weekend

On Sunday, February 6, members of the Canadian Armed Forces will tackle the trails of Rockwood Park near the Fisher Lakes area for cold weather navigation skills training. The exercise will provide local reservists with an opportunity to train outdoors in challenging winter conditions and put their orienteering/navigation skills to the test. The exercise will take place from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and involve approximately 16 personnel from 3 Field Artillery Regiment.

The orienteering exercise is centered around map and compass navigation combined with testing winter survival skills. These skills are important to train, test and improve on to maintain a high level of readiness for the fluctuating and demanding weather conditions of Canadian winters.

Rockwood Park will remain fully open to the public, no areas will be closed to visitors.

There will be no weapons or firearms used in the training, as this is just a navigation/orienteering activity. The City of Saint John is proud to support local reservists with the use of Rockwood Park for this important training.
