Fire Prevention Week 2025

“Charge into Fire Safety”: Saint John marks Fire Prevention Week 2025

Saint John Fire Department is proud to join communities across North America in recognizing Fire Prevention Week, taking place October 5–11, 2025. This year’s theme, as announced by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.”

With lithium-ion batteries powering many everyday devices, from smartphones and laptops to power tools and toys, this year’s campaign focuses on educating residents about how to buy, charge, and recycle these batteries safely to prevent fires.

Key safety tips include:

  • BUY only certified products with safety marks such as UL, ETL, or CSA.
  • CHARGE devices using manufacturer-approved cords and on hard surfaces, never on beds or couches.
  • RECYCLE batteries properly at designated recycling locations. Never dispose of them in household trash. To find drop off locations and how to properly recycle batteries, visit recycleyourbatteries.ca.

To celebrate Fire Prevention Week and promote community engagement, the Saint John Fire Department will host open houses at all fire stations on Wednesday, October 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Residents are invited to meet local firefighters, tour the stations, explore fire trucks, and learn more about fire safety in a fun and interactive environment.
