City of Saint John solid waste urban and special bag tag delivery delays

With the national postal service resuming operations, it is expected that mail delivery will be delayed as they work to clear the backlog. Here’s what City of Saint John residents and customers need to know:

During the mail disruption, the upcoming distribution of urban bag tags and special collection bag tags will be delayed. This will only impact solid waste customers in the South Central Peninsula, Waterloo Village, Old North End, and special collection areas. Residents with garbage carts will not be impacted by this disruption.

The new bag tags will be pink and become valid starting January 13, 2025. If the new tags are not received by this date, customers are to place garbage bags curbside as per normal, adhering to current limits:

  • Weekly customers are allowed one (1) untagged bag (until new tags arrive)
  • Biweekly customers are allowed two (2) untagged bags (until new tags arrive)
  • Any additional bags/items must have purchased (green) bag tags attached

Any bags/items over these limits that do not have a purchased tag attached will be subject to normal by-law procedures.

A further update will be provided once delivery timelines of the replacement tags become certain.
