City’s new Community Block Party Trailer encourages residents to get together and celebrate

Saint John residents are in for a summer treat thanks to the City of Saint John’s newest recreation initiative, the Community Block Party Trailer. This colourful and eye-catching 14-foot trailer comes fully equipped with everything needed to host the ultimate block party in neighbourhoods throughout the city.  

The Community Block Party Trailer was created for the entire community to share and is available for Saint John residents to reserve and use to host neighbourhood events. The trailer comes stocked with party essentials including a barbecue, sound system, tables, chairs, coolers, games and more – all conveniently packed and delivered, free of charge.  

“The Community Block Party Trailer will provide opportunities for neighbours to gather, forge new relationships and create a strong unity and pride within their neighbourhood,” says City of Saint John Mayor Donna Reardon.  

The trailer is the third of five new and enhanced recreational initiatives that have been launched by the City this summer.

The City’s first-ever disc golf course opened in early June at Shamrock Park; the popular Passport to Parks event series has returned; two all-terrain off-road wheelchairs are anticipated to arrive in the fall, helping to make trails and beaches more accessible at Rockwood Park; and work to evaluate field locations for what will become the City’s first official cricket field is underway. 

“These initiatives were designed to help meet the recreation needs of an increasingly diverse population with a variety of interests and abilities,” says Mayor Reardon. “They aim to strengthen sport development and grow participation in recreation and leisure activities, contributing to the health and wellbeing of residents of all ages.”

Reservation requests are approved based on availability and on a first-come, first-served basis with preference given to neighbourhoods that are reserving for the first time. 

The introduction of new programs, services and recreation facilities align with the City’s ten-year strategic plan and in accordance with the PlaySJ directive available at www.PlaySJ.ca.
