Dedication of Parker’s Corner – Honouring a Legacy of Love and Inclusion

The City of Saint John proudly dedicated the corner of Carmarthen and Mecklenburg Streets as Parker’s Corner on Saturday, August 16, in honour of Parker Grant Cogswell—a beloved LGBTQ+ advocate, community builder, and source of joy and resilience in our city.

The ceremony also celebrated the life and work of Judith Meinert-Thomas, Parker’s mother, whose fierce love for her son inspired decades of advocacy. Judith co-founded the Saint John chapter of PFLAG, organized the city’s first Pride parade, and became a leading voice for LGBTQ+ rights in the region. Her legacy continues to shape the inclusive spirit of Saint John today.

The event was filled with emotion, reflection, and celebration, with a strong turnout from the community. Speakers included:

  • Kelly Green
  • Mayor Donna Reardon
  • Arlo Cogswell (Parker’s nephew)
  • Ralph Thomas (Judith’s husband, speaking on her legacy)
  • MLA David Hickey
  • Alex Saunders (Saint John Pride)
  • And a heartfelt, spontaneous tribute from Parker’s husband, André Gallant, whose words deeply moved all in attendance.

Together, we honoured Parker’s life, Judith’s activism, and the inclusive spirit they helped foster in Saint John. The City thanks all who joined us for this unforgettable moment.
