Delay in Opening of Saint Patrick Street Pedway

We know that everyone has been eagerly anticipating the opening of the new Saint Patrick Street pedway following several months of construction. This newly renovated section of the pedway connection will include an additional elevator and a newly constructed wide staircase linking Market Square, Brunswick Square, the City Market, the Canada Games Aquatic Centre, and TD Station.

Due to unexpected challenges encountered by the contractor, the opening of the pedway has been delayed. The current expectation is for the pedway to open later this year. We will continue to update the public as we near the completion.

We recognize that this delay is an inconvenience for residents, businesses, and visitors. The City of Saint John is working closely with the contractors to ensure the pedway opens as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are confident that this improvement will be worth the wait, providing a convenient and accessible experience for all.

Businesses and services within the pedway system remain open during construction and we encourage the public to continue to visit.
