On behalf of the GIS Certification Institute.

The City of Saint John has officially joined GISCI’s growing network of Endorsing Employers, announced today by the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI). This prestigious designation recognizes the City of Saint John's commitment to supporting its Geographic Information System (GIS) professionals in attaining and maintaining their GIS Professional (GISP) credentials.

The City of Saint John's municipal team embodies the City's authenticity by delivering comprehensive services with a focus on transparency, progressiveness, and results. As a newly recognized Endorsing Employer of the GIS Certification Institute, the City of Saint John has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to supporting its GIS professionals in both obtaining and maintaining their GIS credentials.

“Obtaining a GISP designation requires several years of experience, passing a rigorous exam, abiding by an established code of ethics and accumulating professional education credits by taking courses and attending conferences to keep up with the changing technology,” notes Yves Léger, a GISP and Geographic Information Systems Manager for the City of Saint John. "Being a GISCI Endorsing Employer will help our city attract and retain highly qualified GIS Professionals, in order to better serve our citizens. We are very proud to be the first city in Canada to receive this prestigious designation.”

The GISCI Endorsing Employer Designation Program was created to enhance the value of the GISP® certification and promote its widespread adoption across the geospatial profession. This designation is open to organizations across the public, private, and commercial sectors that are committed to upholding the highest standards in GIS and fostering the continuous professional growth of their teams.
