Keeping Rockwood Park Safe for Wildlife and Visitors

The City of Saint John is reminding anglers and park visitors to help protect local wildlife by properly disposing of fishing lines, hooks, and other fishing equipment while enjoying Rockwood Park.

Discarded fishing line can easily entangle birds, turtles, and other wildlife, leading to serious injuries. Lost or improperly discarded hooks can also harm animals, pets, and people using the park’s trails and shorelines.

Fishing line and tackle disposal receptacles, provided in partnership with ACAP Saint John, are located at Lily Lake and Fisher Lakes. Visitors are encouraged to use these containers to safely dispose of unwanted line and hooks.

By taking a moment to dispose of fishing gear responsibly, you are helping keep Rockwood Park safe, clean, and healthy for wildlife and for everyone who enjoys it.

Visitors are also reminded not to feed wildlife, as doing so can disrupt natural behaviours and negatively impact the health and safety of animals throughout the park.

Protect Wildlife. Dispose of Fishing Line Properly. Leave No Trace.
