Landowner applications now available for the Nuisance Deer Management Program

The City of Saint John is collecting applications from landowners in Millidgeville who live within the identified Nuisance Deer Management Program area and wish to have their properties assessed by the Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development for nuisance deer harvesting permits. Landowners must apply for these permits each year.

The nuisance deer hunt will take place during the regular bow-hunting season, October 3 - November 20, 2022. Only properties that have been assessed for the Nuisance Deer Management Program, and receive tags for deer from the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development, are eligible for bow hunting. Landowners can choose to hunt themselves or allow other hunters to use their tags. The City of Saint John has a list of licensed bow hunters who are interested in participating in the program.

Saint John Common Council passed the Nuisance Deer Management Strategy in February 2019 to assist in managing the urban deer population and Lyme disease. The program is managed by the Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development and takes into account lot size, safety concerns, and number of permits issued.

An application form for landowners can be found here.
