By-Law Number LG-18 A By-Law respecting the Regulation of Ridesharing Companies in The City of Saint John

Public Notice is hereby given that the Common Council of The City of Saint John intends to consider giving third reading to the bylaw entitled, “By-Law Number L.G.-18, A By-Law respecting the Regulation of Ridesharing Companies in The City of Saint John” at its meeting of May 2, 2022.

The Provincial government made amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act in 2020 to allow for ridesharing companies to offer services where municipalities have enacted a governing by-law.  In conjunction with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Act, local by-laws set out requirements for ridesharing companies including driver requirements, vehicle requirements, technology platform requirements and licensing.  This by-law will establish standards to regulate, control, and collect fees for the licensing of ridesharing companies.

In accordance with the Local Governance Act, the bylaw will be read in summary only, if no member of Council objects.
