Red Dress Day 2026

National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two‑Spirit People (MMIWG2S+) – May 5, 2026

The City of Saint John invites residents to join us in recognizing the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two‑Spirit People (MMIWG2S+) on May 5, 2026. This day calls on all Canadians to acknowledge the ongoing violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and 2S+ people, and to honour those whose lives have been tragically taken.

MMIWG2S+ Awareness Gathering

The public is invited to attend a community gathering in honour of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two‑Spirit People. This event is hosted by the Saint John Arts Centre (SJAC) in partnership with the City of Saint John.

The gathering will be led by Natasha Ward, a proud member of the Metepenagiag Mi’kmaq Nation and a dedicated, trusted advocate for MMIWG2S+ families in Saint John for the past four years. Natasha is especially committed to supporting families of the murdered and missing. Her awareness work is grounded in truth and shaped by the urgent Calls for Action and justice surrounding MMIWG2S+. It forms a meaningful part of her lived experience and purpose.

The event will also feature drumming by Flying Dust Nêhiyaw Nation member Connor Macfarlane.

A healing smudge will be available.
