Reminder to residents: City’s enhanced Waste Wise program set to launch this Sunday, October 23

The City of Saint John is reminding residents that enhanced solid waste collection services will begin this Sunday, October 23.

The Waste Wise team has been working hard to ensure all households receive a complete curbside collection kit (a garbage cart, two recycling totes and one lid). The totes are stackable, which means only one lid is required. If you haven’t received your kit by Monday, October 24, please contact the City’s Customer Service Centre at 658-4455.

Residents are encouraged to look up their garbage pickup time by using the ReCollect tool on the City’s website. Simply type in your home address and your new schedule will appear. To ensure you never miss a pickup sign up for reminders from the ReCollect tool.

Important program reminders:

  • Recycling should be placed curbside the evening before your garbage pickup day by 10:00 p.m.
  • Garbage bag limits
    • One full city-issued garbage cart (approximately two large garbage bags)
    • For households that will not receive a garbage cart and will continue to receive bag collection (South-Central Peninsula, Old North End and Waterloo Village):
      • A limit of one bag per weekly pickup
  • Garbage bag tags are now available for purchase at locations across the city. For a full list of vendors, visit www.saintjohn.ca/wastewise
  • Curbside compost will continue to be offered under the new program.
  • The bulky items pick-up service will continue to be offered to all customers, by appointment, by contacting Customer Service at 658-4455.

The City recognizes that it will require time for residents to become familiar with the new guidelines for the updated collection services. Helpful resources about the program are available on the City’s website and communication about the program will continue throughout the coming weeks to ensure residents are provided with information to help them succeed with the new program.
