Application and Eligibility

To qualify for P.R.O. Kids, your child must be between the ages of 2 and 18 years old and live in Saint John, Grand Bay-Westfield, Rothesay or Quispamsis. P.R.O. Kids provides funding that can be utilized towards registration fees for our many recognized programs. 

Applicants who receive funding from P.R.O. Kids can only be in one paid recreation program at a time. 

Seasons

P.R.O. Kids now operates on 4 separate funding application seasons: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. Financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.  

  • Fall Season  

    • For activities beginning between September 1st and December 31st  

    • Application Period: July 1st to August 15th   

  • Winter Season  

    • For activities beginning between January 1st and March 31st  

    • Application Period: November 1st to December 15th   

  • Spring Season  

    • For activities beginning between April 1st and May 31st  

    • Application Period: January 1st to February 15th   

  • Summer Season  

    • For activities beginning between June 1st and August 31st  

    • Application Period: April 1st to May 15th 

Proof of Financial Need

PRO Kids now uses the CRA Notice of Assessment (NOA) or the Canadian Child Tax Benefit (CCB) as the primary documents to assess applications. Applicants must submit either the most recent Notice of Assessment(s) for any/all adults in the household, or a copy of the most recent Canadian Child Tax Benefit. These documents can be acquired by going to the CRA My Account for Individuals website, or calling 1-800-959-8281.

Income Threshold

P.R.O. Kids has also recently implemented an income threshold, as developed by the Saint John Human Development Council, that will be followed when assessing applications. To be eligible for funding, your household family income must fall under the threshold listed below as it relates to the size of the household. Before applying, please ensure your total income (line 15000) on your CRA Notice of Assessment, or Canadian Child Tax Benefit, does not exceed the income thresholds listed below for your family size:

*To calculate family size, count the number of parents in the household plus the number of children 18 years or younger. 

Before applying, know your activity of choice, the registration deadlines for that program, the costs associated with it, and have your most recent Notice of Assessment(s) or Canadian Child Tax Benefit. Contact the program provider for more information.  

Parents must re-apply for each season of activity. Multiple applications for different seasons for a single child will not be accepted.
