Announcement of a cooperative agreement between the Lord Beaverbrook Rink and the City of Saint John

On behalf of the Board of the Lord Beaverbrook Rink

The Board of the Lord Beaverbrook Rink (LBR) is pleased to announce a partnership with the City of Saint John to provide ice time to youth in the community this summer. Through a contract arrangement, the City has allowed the LBR Board to operate the Peter Murray Arena as a venue for a new summer ice program. In addition, the LBR Board has collaborated with several local businesses for support to be able to offer the ice time to families free of charge.

The summer ice program will be administered by staff of the LBR. It is anticipated that over 300 local hockey players will take part in the 2021 summer ice program.

Deputy Mayor, John MacKenzie is pleased with the arrangement, stating, “This is the type of partnership that offers tremendous recreational benefit to youth in Saint John.”

LBR Board Chair, Michael Simon, agrees. “Recreation is an important part of our everyday lives and the mandate of the LBR is to serve the youth of our city. We are excited to work with the City of Saint John, and local business partners, to offer this new summer initiative.”

The LBR Board will hold an opening ceremony at the Peter Murray Arena on Sunday, July 11 at
2 p.m. Speakers at the event will include Mayor Donna Reardon, Deputy Mayor John MacKenzie, President of Saint John Youth Minor Hockey Sean Hall, and local businessman and Board member Mark Hughes.
