Small City, Big Respect

A Community Reminder for Safe, Fun Visits to Our Parks and Beaches

As summer heats up, the City of Saint John and the Saint John Police Force encourage residents to enjoy our parks and beaches safely and respectfully.

🚗 Road Safety in Parks

Drivers are reminded to travel slowly and use caution on park roads and in parking lots. The Saint John Police conduct targeted traffic campaigns in areas within and around City parks. These shared spaces include young children, strollers, bicycles, individuals using mobility aids, and animals.

🏕️ Camping and Overnight Parking

Camping and overnight parking are only permitted in designated campgrounds.

🌅 Beach Hours

All City beaches close at dusk.

🐾 Dogs

Dogs must remain on leash at all times in parks and beaches.

🚭 Smoking and vaping

New Brunswick’s Smoke Free Places Act prohibits smoking and vaping on any beach, playground, sports area, and within 20 metres of those spaces.

🗑️ Litter and cleanliness

Visitors are asked to help keep parks and beaches clean by disposing of litter properly.

🍔 Barbecue Use

Dominion Park and Rockwood Park offer designated spaces where visitors may use charcoal barbecues safely.

📅 Event Reservations

City parks are available to reserve for public and private events using the online reservation portal.

📞 Where to Direct Concerns

To help ensure concerns are directed to the right service:

  • Police matters — Criminal activity, dangerous driving, or any immediate public safety issue should be reported to the Saint John Police Force.
  • City services — Park maintenance, smoking, dogs off leash, or other non‑emergency park and beach concerns should be directed to the City of Saint John through Customer Service at 506‑658‑4455.

Together, we can all enjoy a safe and fun summer in our parks and on the beaches.

Don’t forget to join us for Passport to Parks this Saturday at Dominion Park from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
