City prepares for Tropical Storm Elsa

The City of Saint John and Saint John Emergency Management Organization (SJ-EMO) are currently monitoring the weather forecast as Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to track across the Maritimes as a Post-Tropical storm late Friday or Saturday bringing significant rain and wind gusts to parts of the region.

City crews are checking catch basins and will be closely monitoring drains, culverts, wastewater collection systems and wastewater lift stations. Tree crews are available for fallen limbs and trees.

With a localized flooding risk and power outages possible, SJ-EMO recommends having your home 72-hour emergency kits ready to go.

Citizens are reminded to stay away from the shorelines and beaches for their own safety during a storm as well as securing any items such as deck furniture and barbecues.

To report flooding or damage to City property, contact the City’s Customer Service Centre at 658-4455.

To report a fallen power line or power outages, call Saint John Energy at 658-5252 or visit them online.

For emergencies, call 911.
