City reminds motorists to slow down in school zones

Please keep the safety of our children and youth top of mind at all times

As a new school year approaches, and more students are walking to and from school, the City of Saint John wishes to remind motorists to avoid any distractions while driving and slow down in and around all school zones.

Slower vehicle speed allows more time for motorists to react to people crossing the roads and reduces the distance required to stop a vehicle.

Fluorescent yellow School Zone and School Zone End signs identify school zones. Speed limits in these zones are in effect from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on school days.

The 30 km/h default school zone speed limit is in effect in all City school zones, unless otherwise indicated. Some City streets have specific school zone speed limit signs of 40 km/h.
