City of Saint John gearing up for 2026 construction season

The City of Saint John is preparing for another busy construction season, with work getting underway on several projects aimed at strengthening and modernizing the infrastructure that residents and businesses rely on every day.

Projects scheduled for the 2026 construction season focus on maintaining and improving roads, facilities, and essential services across the city. Altogether, the construction projects planned for 2026 represent approximately $45 million dollars of investment, reflecting the City’s continued commitment to long-term infrastructure improvement and community growth.

Significant construction projects planned for this year include:

  • Enhancements at Millidgeville Wastewater Treatment Facility
  • Charlotte Street Transportation Improvement Project
  • Sydney Street Reconstruction Project
  • Canterbury Street Reconstruction Project
  • Approximately 31 lane kilometers of refurbishing and repaving through the asphalt resurfacing program.
    • Major streets to be resurfaced include sections of Seely Street, Thorne Avenue, Loch Lomond Road; and Bleury Street.
    • This also includes the renewal of approximately 3.7 kilometers of concrete curb and approximately 3.2 kilometers of sidewalk across the city.

Some temporary traffic or access impacts may occur while work is underway. The City will continue to share updates to help residents and businesses plan ahead and minimize disruption.
