Greater Saint John Sports Hall of Fame – 2026 Inductee Announcement

The City of Saint John is pleased to announce the 2026 Greater Saint John Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Class, featuring four Athletes and two Builders whose accomplishments have made a lasting impact on sport in our region.

Athlete Inductees

  • Peter Britt — Boxing 

Peter Britt captured seven provincial championships and is a six‑time national medalist, including two national championship victories. A three‑time member of the National Team, he competed in the 1984 Olympic Box‑Off Trials, defeating the Canadian Champion in his first bout before narrowly missing the Olympic berth by split decision.

  • Glen Hayward — Judo

Glen Hayward earned seven Provincial titles, three Atlantic Championships, and four Eastern Canadian Championships. He represented New Brunswick at seven National Championships and competed internationally at the Francophone Games.

  • Olivia Gauthier — Soccer 

Olivia Gauthier began her soccer journey with Fundy Soccer before advancing to provincial competition and Shattuck‑St. Mary’s. She went on to excel at the University of Memphis, where she played NCAA Division I soccer as team captain, second‑team All‑American, and Defensive Player of the Year. Olivia has also played professionally with Lidkopings FK (Sweden) and BIIK Shymkent (Kazakhstan).

  • James Smith — Shooting 

James Smith has achieved international success in both small and large bore rifle competitions. At the World Police and Fire Games, he has earned ten gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, contributing to numerous medal performances for the Canadian Team.

Builder Inductees

  • Robert McInnes — Karate 

For more than six decades, Robert McInnes has been a driving force in karate through coaching and administrative leadership. He has guided athletes to success at Provincial, National, and International levels and founded the first Maritimes Karate Association, significantly shaping the sport’s development in the region.

  • Allie Vaughan — Taekwondo 

Allie Vaughan has played a pivotal role in the growth of Taekwondo through decades of leadership at both provincial and national levels. He has served as a Taekwondo Canada Performance Coach and as a coaching facilitator with the Coaching Association of Canada. As Vice President of Taekwondo New Brunswick, he has supported numerous athletes in achieving national and international success.

The Greater Saint John area has a rich and storied sporting history, and the induction of these six individuals further strengthens the legacy of the Greater Saint John Sports Hall of Fame, located in the TD Station lobby.

The 2026 Induction Ceremony will take place at Lily Lake Pavilion on October 24, 2026. Ticket information will be released in the near future.
