Disability Awareness Week runs from May 29 – June 4

On behalf of the Saint John Ability Advisory Committee

May 29 to June 4 marks Disability Awareness Week (DAW) 2022 and this year’s theme is Adapt – Improvise – Overcome. The goal of DAW is to raise public awareness of existing barriers that prevent residents with disabilities from full and equal participation in all aspects of their community.

Schedule of Events

Opening Ceremonies: Reading of Disability Awareness Week proclamation
Monday, May 30, 6:00 p.m.
City Hall, Council Chambers 2nd floor
Please come join us at the Common Council meeting to support the City’s proclamation for Disability Awareness Week.

Celebrating Abilities
Wednesday, June 1
Princess Elizabeth School and K Park Elementary are participating with Saint John Ability Advisory Committee in education practices in inclusion and accommodations.

Employability Fair
Thursday, June 2, 11:00a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
215 Charlotte Street, Parking lot A side entrance with ramp (next to Key Industries main building).

Showcasing local services available to help people transition to training and employment.

Abilities in Motion – Walk and Roll
Friday, June 3, 12:15 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Starting at Queen Square and walking to King’s Square
Walk and/or Roll, snap a walk & roll selfie, post, and tag @NBPCD on social media and use the #DAWSJ2022 hashtag to show your support.
