Freedom of the City ceremony taking place this weekend

Mayor Donna Reardon and Members of Common Council are pleased to invite the public to the bestowing ceremony of the Freedom of the City to the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron. The Freedom of the City is the highest honour presented by the City and is granted to a military entity that has a long-standing relationship with a municipality. It is one of the most important distinctions received by a military unit.

The ceremony will take place in King’s Square on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. rain or shine.

The event will kick off with a military parade beginning at 11:00 a.m. and include flypasts of CH-146 Griffon helicopters from 403 Squadron and an official proclamation read by Mayor Reardon.

Flights by RCAF aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety and are dependent upon weather and flying conditions.  Except where conducting a take-off, approach or landing, the helicopters will fly at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route.
