Harbour Bridge Construction Update: July 10, 2025

The City of Saint John has been notified by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) that the first 20-minute closure of the Harbour Bridge will take place between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday, July 10.

The intermittent closures are expected to occur approximately two to three times per month until early November. To minimize the impact to motorists, these closures will be scheduled between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. and are expected to last a maximum of 20 minutes.

The closures are required to raise the bridge deck by using jacks and must be done during a traffic-free environment to ensure the safety of workers and motorists.

Motorists should anticipate delays and are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly, using Reversing Falls Bridge during these times.

The City of Saint John will collaborate with the Province of New Brunswick and DTI to update the public of future closures through saintjohn.ca and the City’s Facebook page. DTI will also update information on 511 and electronic signs along Route 1 at least two days in advance of each closure.

We appreciate the public’s understanding and patience during this critical phase of improving this vital transportation infrastructure.
