By-Law Number LG-15 A By-Law respecting the Procedures of the Common Council of The City of Saint John

Public Notice is hereby given that the Common Council of The City of Saint John intends to consider giving third reading to the bylaw entitled, “By-Law Number LG-15 A By-Law respecting the Procedures of the Common Council of The City of Saint John” at its meeting of April 20, 2026.

This Procedural by-law incorporates all amendments made to the by-law since it was enacted in 2021 and includes the new process for selecting a Deputy Mayor. It modernizes the by-law by removing references to obsolete procedures and concepts, improving the public hearing process and generally aligning Council’s procedure with that of other local governments of similar size in NB and elsewhere. The updated by-law repeals and replaces the by-law entitled “By-law Number LG-15, A By-law respecting the Procedures of the Common Council of the City of Saint John” enacted on the 3rd day of May, 2021.

In accordance with the Local Governance Act, the bylaw will be read in summary only, if no member of Council objects.
