Public invited to provide feedback on the Municipal Emergency Response Plan

The Saint John Emergency Management Organization (SJ-EMO) is seeking input from residents on its Municipal Emergency Response Plan as they work towards updating it for 2023. The Plan outlines procedures to be followed by local government to provide prompt and coordinated responses to an emergency, and related activities that support emergency preparedness.

Two public engagement opportunities have been developed to give residents a chance to learn about the Plan and provide feedback into the updated version.

A Municipal Emergency Response Plan project has been launched on the Shape Your City Saint John website, where the public can find details about the current Plan, learn how the revised Plan will be developed, and provide input into the types of emergencies that should be included. The project will be open for feedback until April 17 and can be found by visiting www.shapeyourcitysaintjohn.ca

The public are also invited to join Fire Chief and Director of SJ-EMO Kevin Clifford, for a virtual town hall on Wednesday, April 5 at 12:00 p.m. Participants will learn more about the Municipal Emergency Response Plan and have an opportunity to provide input into the 2023 version. Registration is required for the virtual town hall and can be completed by emailing fireadmin@saintjohn.ca. Once registered, residents will receive a link to the meeting.

The current Municipal Emergency Response Plan was approved in August 2021 and addresses 30 potential emergencies the City of Saint John may experience. As mandated by the Province of New Brunswick, the Plan must be reviewed and updated regularly. A revised version will be presented to the Public Safety Committee during Emergency Preparedness Week, May 1-7.
